Perth Jazz Society & Tone List join forces for the second concert in new experimental jazz concert series, TuneNoiseTune. Taking place at the Ellington Jazz Club on April 26 as part of Audible Edge, this concert features a rare solo performance from jazz piano maverick Tom O’Halloran, alongside a new commissioned work by Alice Humphries & Thea Rossen, as the debut of their collaborative improvised project unfold.
Pianist Tom O’Halloran’s experiments include the use of analogue synthesizers, Modernist composition techniques & experimental forms in jazz music and improvisation. This extended solo performance offers a window into the mind of one of Perth’s most exploratory and technically accomplished composer-improvisers. It’ll be nothing short of astounding.
Alice Humphries & Thea Rossen similarly draw from the worlds of modern and contemporary classical music, as well as ambient music, in their new project unfold. They use tabletop string instruments, found object percussion and piano, bringing their refined musicality into fragile, textural music. Their new work, supported by 2022’s Audible Edge Festival commissions, threads haunting melodies though the delicate sound-worlds they create together.
Across six concerts in 2022, TuneNoiseTune will bring together new and established musicians from the jazz, pop and experimental scenes in ways rarely heard in Boorloo. New commissions and new collaborations will bring fresh faces to the scene whilst also holding space for long-standing local groups to share excellent and ambitious music in intimate settings.
TuneNoiseTune is possible thanks to the generous support of Carl Erbrich. Audible Edge is proudly supported by the Western Australian government through the Department of Local Government, Sports and Cultural Industries.
